Prince – Cause and Effect

prince_banner
Here's what hosts Steve Seel and Jill Riley had to say:
The tune is like a little mini-symphony of Prince-ness. It's got a few different sections, some that have that classic funky, sexy, sinewy Prince and some with his more rockish tendencies ... come to think of it, that makes it all classic Prince. Except the rock-y parts might be the hardest he's ever rocked, which is pretty notable in and of itself. - Steve Seel

Daptone Records

We are fans of this great label, they just released a fine compilation named Daptones Gold.

dap-gold-homepage
Daptone's mission is pretty straightforward: it makes great soul records the way they used to be made, which is not the way almost anyone else makes them any more. Just like most of the great soul labels, it's a small, independent operation: a tightly knit crew of comrades playing on the records, designing their artwork and getting them out to the public, all working side-by-side. The artists on most of Daptone's records have been working closely together for years, constantly sit in on each other's projects and know how to get into a deep groove together--the same setup as Motown's Funk Brothers or the Stax house band or James Brown's great bands. Daptone's records are cut to analog tape and released on 45 RPM singles and LPs, the media soul music was invented to sound good on. The Daptone sound's alchemy doesn't come from technology, though: it comes from the devoted, extended family in the orbit of that Bushwick house...

The Menahan Street Band aka The Expressions aka The Dap Kings

Yes you are reading it good.

The Menahan Street Band is one of the many names of who they seem to be!

We went to a Lee Fields concert in Amsterdam, the Menahan Street Band ft Charles Bradley was the warming up act.
But this same band was on stage with Lee Fields by the name 'The Expressions'.
And now it seems they are the Dap Kings too! :-)

Check out the bands on these videos:
