Paul van Kessel

At early age I developed an interest in music in general. Around the age of eight I got to sing solo in church and a few years later I met Mr van Hees which I consider as my biggest inspirator and teacher. He gave me a guitar to take home during the summer holidays and I started to check and play old soul tracks and Beatles tunes. I started playing & singing these tunes outside for the people I hung around with. It was such a good feeling creating these party's outside that soon I would take it to the stage. I joined a funk band and learned a lot about groove and motherships. For a period of ten years we got together at a regular base and funked alot on festivals and in clubs. I learned so much about jammin' and improvising with these guys and meanwhile I developed an interest for Jazz aswell, which took me to Amsterdam in 2001 to study Jazz vocals for 4 years at the Amsterdam Conservatory. Singing jazz standards, playing piano and learning how to read & write music became a daily routine. Right now I'm part of several projects like The Young Sinatras, The Headliners, Wickedjazzsounds, Dox-Orchestra, Basti's Trio, Scallymatic Orchestra & Jazzed to the Max.
