Diederik Rijpstra

DIEDERIK RIJPSTRA(1982)


Diederik started to play the trumpet when he was nine years old. At the age of seventeen he started his study jazz-trumpet in Amsterdam and graduated in 2005. In 2001 he got together with jazzquintet QUINCEY with whom he plays now more then five years. He did five tours with QUINCEY through Southern-Europe whereby he performed in Nice, Antibes, Avignon, Genève en Barcelona. Three years ago Diederik performed in some theaterplays as well and in the beginning if 2003 he got his own ‘trumpets and vinyl’ evening in the Vodkabar in Amsterdam. He performed here with several DJs (Morties, Urvinson, Missing Links & Ruby Wax), instrumentalist (piano, guitar, percussion) and singers. At this moment Diederik is busy with an educational project whereby he combines a hiphop DJ with a jazzquartet to perform on highschools and give workshops. Diederik also performs with his own band DrQ.



Style

Diederik is a jazz trumpet player who plays mostly in the style of hardbop and mainstream. He loves to make music that is a bit free and open. Therefore it is great for him to play with DJs. “When I play with DJs I have so much freedom to express myself. I rarely experience that somewhere else”.



National Highlights

He performed in a lot of great clubs in and near Amsterdam, such as Club More, Kingdom, Zebra Lounge, 020, Escape, Hotel Arena, Panama, Sugar Factory. But also Nighttown (Rotterdam), Lichtfabriek (Haarlem), Paard van Troje (Den Haag), Tivoli (Utrecht)



Played With

He played together with DJs like Brian S, Erich E, Natasha, Jeziah, Branco etc.
